Easter time / Wielkanoc

Image
Regardless your beliefs - here comes the time of rebirth and the beginning of new life. Spring in nature and Easter in Polish tradition. Happy Easter! Wiosna w naturze i Wielkanoc w naszej tradycji. Wesołych Świąt!

Welcome Spring! / Powitanie wiosny!

Spring? You mean just one? Oh no, there are three of them: Wiosna? Ale jak, tylko jedna? No nie, u mnie są trzy:  Yes, "Three Graces of Spring" - the newest, hot of the needle artwork from me. Just in time for the last day of Winter. If you wonder why there are three Spring ladies don't ask me - I have no clue. The basic idea was to play more with merging and gardens. And it looked rather dull at the beginning (mind you, it was in January, with short days and rather poor daylight): Tak, "Trzy Wiosenne Gracje" - najnowsza praca, prosto spod igły. Akurat na ostatni dzień zimy. Nawet nie pytajcie dlaczego trzy - nie mam pojęcia. Chciałam po prostu jeszcze trochę popracować nad zagadnieniem przenikania w ogrodzie. I na początku wyglądało to słabo (w styczniu dni krótkie, a światło marne): I wanted to focus on floral outfits just as if the Spring was literally entrancing the garden.

Lady in the garden / Dama w ogrodzie

One of ideas I wanted to develop in my art this year is "merging". I'm fascinated by the fact that what we see (literally or not) is usually the result of different elements merged so well that it is impossible to recognize them. But when we step back in time we can see the process  and suddenly all those elements are clearly seen and we are surprised by the diversity of them and the role they played. Sounds complicated? It's not so. If the lady on the picture above looks familiar you may remember another work of mine with similar lady: Jednym z pomysłów, nad którymi chciałabym trochę popracować w tym roku, jest "przenikanie". Brzmi skomplik

Quilting in Poland / Patchwork po polsku

Image
Once upon a time (in 2000 to be exact) a nice feature about Polish quilter has been published in "The Quilting Quarterly", the journal of American National Quilting Association. With the funny subtitle "A band of one". No, I didn't ever consider myself as the only quilter in Poland, I just didn't know any. And I put here these big pictures of this article not only to show you my early works I also want  you to read yourself what "quilting scene" in Poland looked like 16 years ago. There was no scene at all :) And now I'm writing this post while two of my works are hanging in the National Patchwork exhibition in Szczecin - . We came here with small steps. Starting with the very first, small exhibition in Kraków through Berlin to this And this is just a small part of still growing group of Polish quilters. It took 16 years from literally nothing to quite a lot - fabric shops, quilt groups, School of Patchwork, workshops, qui

Winterland / Zimowa kraina

Image
For the first time in my life (except the childhood) I was dreaming of a real Winter. You know what I mean - white snow, a bit of frost, bright sun and crispy air. Unfortunately this dream didn't come true - it is one of the warmest Winters I can remember. So I'm very happy that I made it myself  - welcome to my Winterland! Po raz pierwszy w życiu (wyjąwszy dzieciństwo) marzyłam o prawdziwej zimie. Wiecie - śnieg, mróz, ostre słońce i trzeszczące powietrze. I started it this past Fall and called "Winter sampler" because I wanted to try all the different ideas for Winter landscapes. Zaczęłam jesienią i roboczo nazwałam "zimowym samplerem", ponieważ chciałam wypróbować różne pomysły na przedstawienie zimowego krajobrazu. As you can see it is all hand quilted and embroidered. Took s

Venetian traces in Lodz / Weneckie ślady w Łodzi

How about starting new year with a bit of surprise? I'm sure that my "Gypsy lady" surprised you as something not so obvious for me. And I was surprised myself. But this is what happens when you spend some quality time with real Venetian mosaic in the middle of a grey winter day. A może zacznijmy ten rok zaskakująco? Bo jestem pewna, że moja "Cyganka" Was trochę zaskoczyła. No, I didn't travel anywhere. Just visited The Film Museum in Lodz where she resides. The longer I stayed with her the more I was hooked. You know that I live in a city with rather rich and interesting history. Some of you may remember another work of mine inspired by this city's history: Nie, nigdzie nie wyjeżdżałam. Odwiedziłam po prostu Muzeum Kinematografii w Łodzi . I im dłużej z

Bye, bye 2015! / Żegnaj 2015!

Image
Yes, this is my 2015 in a glimpse. I didn't manage to collect all the works, but at least the most significant are here. It looks like quite a body of works, doesn't it? And I end this year with a nice cherry on top - HERE is an interview with me :) So I feel like ready for a new year and new textile adventures. Let's have a Happy Creative New Year 2016! Szczęśliwego i Twórczego Nowego Roku 2016!
