Dragons story continued / Smoczej historii ciąg dalszy

Image
My latest dragon comes not from my mind but from Polish folklore. You see that he isn't that nice and friendly as his former colleagues. In fact he is fighting with St George. Walczy - ze św. Jerzym . And I didn't invent him, I used a template, but what a template it is! Nie wymyśliłam go, użyłam szablonu, ale jakiego! The model dragon is painted on the wall of a little Medieval church in a small mountain village Dębno. The church is on the heritage list because of the well preserved original medieval wall polychromy. I have never been there but... received this wonderful gift:: Ten smok pochodzi ze słynnego średniowiecznego kościółka w Dębnie. It is a very well done documentation (with iconography!) of this church written and drawn by our

Fire dragon / Smok ognisty

Image
It looks that I'm totally into dragons now. This one comes with fire (the inner fire, of course). In Poland we have our famous dragon from Cracow (Wawel Dragon) and mine borrowed the setting from it: Smoki mnie wciągnęły. Ten przyszedł z oniem (wewnętrznym ogniem, oczywiście). Lokalizację pożyczył od Wawelskiego: He lives in the mountain with a castle on top but he doesn't eat sheep and loves flowers:) Mieszka w górze z zamkiem na szczycie, ale nie je owiec i uwielbia kwiaty :) Many flowers, one would say :) Można powiedzieć, że nawet dużo kwiatów :)  If you wonder about the relation between these two dragons, don't worry - they are friends! A jeśli zastanawiacie się, jaki stosunek mają moje smoki do siebie, bez obaw - łączy ich przyjaźń!

Where the dragon sleeps / Gdzie smok śpi

Welcome to the New Year and to my new work. I told you in the previous post that I'm bad with resolutions and prefer to go with the flow. Little did I know where this will take me right from the beginning of a year. It started innocently with a picture: Witam w Nowym Roku i z nową pracą. A zaczęło się niewinnie, od zdjęcia: photo by Luke Hemmings   I was exposed to this picture by my friend, poet and writer Louis Hemmings who knows my interests quite well. The picture was taken by his son Luke and, as you may guessed, I loved it from the first sight.  Coincidentally it has happened that I was reminded of a well known Medieval embroidered dragon:  Pokazał mi je przyjaciel, irlandzki pisarz i poeta Louis Hemmings , który dobrze wie, co mnie może zainteresować. Zdjęcie zrobił jego syn, Luke i, j

Bye bye 2016 / Żegnaj 2016

Image
Here is my 2016 in a glimpse - not all the works I created but the ones most important. It was a tough year and I'm really happy it comes to an end. But no resolutions for the new one. They don't work on me and I'm not even good in planning. It's much better to take it bite by bite as it comes. 2017 in Chinese calendar will be the Year of the Rooster. You know that I love roosters - here is one of them wishing you Happy New 2017 Year!

Image
This is a little bird I stitched some months ago. I named it "The bird of hope" because it was inspired by Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope". And now, in this rough time, I can't find any better words for Season's Greetings than this little piece of poetry: "Hope" is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - Tego małego ptaszka uszyłam kilka miesięcy temu. Nazwałam go "Ptaszkiem nadziei" ponieważ powstał z inspiracji wierszem Emily Dickinson "Nadzieja" (w tłumaczeniu Ludmiły Marjańskiej).

Winter dresses / W zimowej szacie

Image
If you remember my former wintry textile works ( THIS one or THIS ) you know, that I see laces in winter landscapes. So you won't be surprised that this little piece of poetry really spoke to my heart: Jeżeli pamiętacie moje poprzednie zimowe tkaniny ( STĄD lub STĄD ) to wiecie, że zimowy pejzaż kojarzy mi się z koronką. Więc nie zdziwicie się, że to małe poetyckie cacko od razu trafiło do mojego serca: "Dress code" Springtime asks for subtle patterns and colours summer lush and fall exotic but winter in winter the dress code is lace The author knew that I was going to use it for inspiration, hope she will unveil her full name to the public. Autorka wiedziała, że zainspirowała mnie do uszycia nowej zimy, mam nadzieję, że ujawni swoje nazwisko publicznie.  So that's how I see Winter this year. It's a happy coincidence that while I write this, I see almost the same outside - real Winter dress with fresh snow. It's not my favorite time fo

Rooster on blue for a change / Kogut dla odmiany

Image
I didn't want to bore you with more trees so meet my new rooster for a change. It is another effect of my Spring visit in the herbal garden I wrote here and here . There I met some amazing roosters and one of them became my model: Nie chciałam zanudzać Was kolejnymi drzewami, więc dzisiaj kogut dla odmiany. Spotkałam tam wspaniałe koguty i jeden z nich posłużył za model: Handsome guy, isn't it? And here is mine in a full view: Przystojny, prawda? A tu mój w pełnej krasie: I don't know why, but I love to create roosters on blue :) His feathers are a scrumptious combination of different silks and embroidery stitches. I thought it could be a good idea to create more traditional folk art setting for this quite modern farm bird: Pomyślałam sobie, że fa
